Caged in Darkness (Caged, #1) - J.D. Stroube I am absolutely stumped about where to start this review. I liked aspects of this enough to enjoy it some and I can see the potential within the story, but overall I can't say I enjoyed reading it. I think the biggest problem I had with this book was the writing. It didn't seem to flow naturally for me. The writing in the beginning was really gripping and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen, but it seemed to have lost that as soon as Savannah hit her teens. Plus the point of view changes were a little odd, I got use to them so it wasn't entirely bad but it was unexpected. I found some of the conversations a little scripted at times and some of the interactions between characters really irked me (some of which is explained toward the end). Also I can honestly say I didn't understand some of Savannah's reasoning behind things, and at times it felt like it was just a means to end for the plot. Since I finished it I can kind of see why but it still feels more like I'm making excuses for it. The love triangle was annoying to me because it seemed to be more of a lust triangle, only a tad more committed. A few situations felt really random and unnecessary also. The ending was...not what I expected but I'm not sure it was a good thing. It explained some things that happened early, so it had a bit of clarity to it...but I didn't really like it. It seemed like it explained away all the progress that had happened in the book. I'm curious enough that I will probably check out the second one when it comes out but I can't say it will be top priority.
